Bucking a recent trend of former Chicago Blackhawks players listing their area homes and leaving town, retired Blackhawks wing Eric Daze has paid $1.68 million for a newly built, six-bedroom, Foursquare house in Hinsdale.

Daze sold his longtime four-bedroom house in Hinsdale for $725,000. It had been listed for $795,000.

A 2002 league MVP who spent his entire 11-year NHL career with the Blackhawks, Daze, 35, was permanently sidelined in 2005 with chronic back problems.

A longtime homeowner in Hinsdale, Daze has traded up to a 12-room stucco house that had been listed for $1.89 million when he closed on the purchase March 18. Read all post…

While the Federal Government boosted the first home buyer market back in 2009 by doubling the FHOG grant as part of its GFC stimulus package, there is still assistance out there to help get on the property ladder.

The figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics show the number of FHB’s dropped as a percentage of total owner-occupied housing finance to just 14.9 per cent of the market, down from 20.5 per cent this time last year and 26.1 per cent in September 2009.

But with a softer property market, stable interest rates and higher levels of saving, FHB’s may be ready to get back into the market.

According to research carried out by mortgage insurer QBE LMI, 22 per cent of FHB respondents said they were considering buying a property in the next 6 months, while 50 per cent are considering a property purchase in the next 12 months.

For those looking to make the leap into property ownership, we’ve trawled the web for the FHB entitlements across the country.

SEWALL’S POINT — A retired Port St. Lucie resident was the top bidder at $363,000 in an auction Thursday for a vacant 1.3-acre lot overlooking the Indian River Lagoon.

Bill Solomon, a Washington, D.C., native who had worked as a medical equipment salesman, said he didn’t know yet what he planned to do with the property.

“I’m keeping all kinds of options open,” Solomon said after the 20-minute auction for which 25 people registered to bid.

It was the second consecutive day of absolute auctions with no reserve price by Palm City-based Elliot Paul & Company Auctions.

Working on behalf of William Frick, who is selling some property because of a divorce, Paul also auctioned off two lots in the Hutchinson Island development of Galleon Bay on Wednesday.

According to public records, Frick paid $572,500 for the Sewall’s Point lot in June 2002, and $1.39 million in January 2001 for the two adjoining lots in Galleon Bay

In the auction of the Galleon Bay lots, which drew 30 potential bidders, a buyer represented by Realtor Adam Brown of Waterfront Properties and Club Communities in Sewall’s Point was high bidder at $500,000, plus a 10 percent auctioneer’s commission.

That buyer was given the choice of the two lots, each just shy of 1 acre with about 110 feet of beach frontage, and picked the lot at 1265 Doubloon Drive.

Craig and Marcia Hill were high bidders on the adjoining lot at 1245 Doubloon Drive with a $425,000 bid, plus commission.

Paul said the Hills told him they plan to build their dream home on the lot.

“I think both of these auctions demonstrate there is a market for waterfront properties in Martin County,” Paul said. “
