Situated in the heart of the Balkan Peninsula, Bulgaria boasts an old and rich history. Most of Bulgaria has a continental climate, with cold winters and hot summers. The climate in general is more severe than in other European areas of the same latitudes, and the average annual temperature range is greater than that of neighbouring countries. The official language is Bulgarian, spoken by about 90 percent of the population. Turkish is the largest minority language.
